How to fragrance a room with Essential Oils

The natural aroma of essential oils is superior to any synthetic or modified fragrance. Not only is the fragrance more diverse and satisfying but you will also benefit from the therapeutic properties of plants that comfort, refresh and support health, mood and wellbeing. Read on to find out how to use essential oil fragrance in your home and other spaces.

Fragrancing a Room or Space

You can use essential oils to fragrance almost any room or area that you wish. Fragrancing is simple, provides a joyful aroma, enhances atmosphere and can lift the mood. Use in these spaces and more:

  • A single room – bedroom, kitchen, laundry, child’s bedroom, etc

  • Your home – create a welcoming aroma for guests.

  • Car – refresh your car.

  • Workspace – enhance and support concentration.

Methods of Fragrancing

The methods of fragrancing a room are diverse. Whilst vaporisers are the best known method, essential oils can be used in a wide range of vessels to disperse lingering scents into a room or space. You can apply drops of oil to any of these to achieve fragrance:

  • Vaporisers – fragrancers, burners and diffusers.

  • Bowls of water – baths and showers.

  • Atomizers – perfume bottles and sprays.

  • Light bulb rings.

  • Potpourri – mixture of dried plant materials, flowers or bark.

  • Candles.

Amount of Fragrance

Essential oil fragrances are concentrated and therefore only drops of the oil need to be used to achieve the desired aroma. An essential oil dropper is used to extract drops of oil from the bottle.

Essential Oil Dropper

An essential oil dropper is a small glass tube with a rubber cap. When the glass tube is gently placed into the essential oil and the rubber cap is squeezed and released the essential oil solution will be drawn up into the glass tube. You can then gently press on the rubber cap to release drops of essential oil one at a time.

Alternatively, a Straw!

A straw can be used if you do not have an essential oil dropper. Place the straw in the bottle, just near the top to avoid waste, put your finger over the top to seal it and then use the drops of essential oil as required. Don’t take your finger off the top until the straw is back in the bottle and then you can release what wasn’t used back into the bottle.

Take Care

Using essential oils to perfume and fragrance can be overpowering. Err on the side of caution as less if often more! Essential oils should always be diluted, should not be inhaled directly or ingested.
